Volume 3, June 2011 is upon us!

Well, I will not forget June 2011 for a lot of reasons. This is the month where:

-My son fully became potty trained
-My professional life extended into crazy double duty days both teaching and writing over 7200 math problems freelance for a textbook company.
-CD Mix Tape Volume Twig finally came into being.

After a month of going back and forth about what I wanted to pour into volume 3 of CD mix tape, I finally put it all together and its now in the mail! You should all be receiving it within the week. These are all songs that have been stuck in my head for the better part of this year for one reason or another. Basically, this is Twig on a disc. Very different vibe than the other two CD's. Final count is 16 tracks with 1 interlude. I really hope you guys all enjoy!

Full disclosure - Track 06 on the CD has some undesirable skips in it in several places due to the fact I got a bad torrent for the file. I only discovered this after the mix hit the mail, so I hope it doesn't damper the enjoyment of the disc as a whole.

On that note, I'm gonna bring some high tech shit up in this. I have track 06 fully downloaded now and all of my files posted on the internet through dropbox.com. Basically, dropbox is a cloud computing service where you can sign up for a free account and get 2GB of storage free online to access anywhere. I can share my mixtape folder, and all files on it, with anyone that also has dropbox. This would also prevent you from having to work to rip my CD on a computer in case you wanted the files digitally.

If you would like to get dropbox click the following link: http://db.tt/h26jjMW

Once you have dropbox, all you have to do is just let me know and I can share my mixtape folder with you (it also has a bonus track that didn't make the final burn)!

I am going to wait until later this week to post the tracklist in the comments, as has been customary so far.

  1. Nice mix so far. Already have track 6, so no need for me to download a hotbox. Shame that it skips tho... Spacehog is a huge guilty pleasure of mine and prob my fav track thus far. MGMT just started playing. I read that they are one of the top concert draws this summer. Had no idea they were that kind of popular.

  3. This mix was pretty nostalgic for me and pretty much dates me as one of the, if not the youngest person in our lovely collective. Muse, OutKast, MCR, and The Killers were all there for my high school years with MGMT bringing up the rear. (Never really a fan of MGMT though) I was reawakened to Rage which was fantastic and I loved how short and sweet the Fastball track was at the end of the mix. I think the one to stick out was "Lazy Eye" though, I don't think I enjoyed it at first but as I listened more it got better and better.

  4. Nice to see some hip-hop making its way into the mix. Silverspun Pickups and Spacehog are standouts at this point for me. I suppose most of these songs are what people call "power pop." I don't know what that term means, but it keeps bouncing around my head when I listen to your mix.

  5. I thought I had posted here some time ago, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

First off, thank you for using the record discs. Very nice.

Listening to parts of this disc was like going to the bottom of my T-shirt drawer and finding shirts I hadn't worn in a long time, and was happy to try on again.

Glad to see the rap barrier was broken, it was only a matter of time.

Lots of fun tracks/bands on here: Silverspun, Spacehog, Oukast, muse. I hadn't been that interested in the MGMT I have heard so far, but I like that tune.

I do have to mention that "so Appalled" is an example of the sort of rap I do not care for. All too often, a collection of established artist collaborate without really displaying the best of their unique talents. While, there are some clever lines, especially from RZA, the topic is fairly generic. The long, haunting strings did not carry the same mood as the lyrics. I really don't mean to piss on your jam, I know it will work its way on my playlists regardless.

Definitely going to check out more Cage the elephant, I have not explored them.

    Overall, very nice, much appreciated.
